Voting Question: Early 90′s Smoking Cessation Apparatus Infomercial?
During the early or mid-90′s, an infomercial ran on television which was hosted by an old male TV star (sorry, I wish I could remember his name…). The infomercial hocked a smoking cessation device, a small plastic apparatus that covered the filter end of a cigarette pack and imprinted perforations in the cigarette filter. The idea was that by adding perforations to the cigarette, fewer chemicals, tar and nicotine would be ingested by smokers. The infomercial featured men and women on the street observing how the product worked, then smoking one of the cigarettes that had been perforated and commenting on the experience. Does anyone remember what the name of this product was? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have been smoking for about 14 years. i will be thirty next week and desperately want to quit. I have used the patch and quit for over a year, however the patch gave me a horribly painful rash and severe nightmares, even when i didn’t where it at night. I was just wondering, for those who were successful quitting, what worked for you? was it cold turkey, pure motivation, patch , gum, inhaler. I would love some thoughts and advice to get me going on this. Thanks.

diagnosed him with COPD and early stages of emphysema. He’s 44 and he’s smoked for 30 years, April 28th was his last cigarette. He got on Chantix and it was GREAT. His lung test came back ok but some scars from having pneumonia. His breath test was excellent, everything pretty good. The smoking cessation coordinator told us that he should also see a lung specialist to look over all his x rays, mri’s, blood work, everything. Ok, today was his appointment. I Truly went in there with my heart in my throat, scared to death what this specialist was going to say, as my nerves have been a wreck for weeks over this. The lung specialist said he really doesn’t have COPD! He said he does have a touch of very early emphysema, and that it never goes away BUT it doesn’t get any worse if you stop using tobacco products, which he had already. The lung specialist is board certified on the lungs, very well proclaimed physician around this whole area. He said that my husband is much, much more on the asthma side than anything else. We all know that’s not “great” but much better than we were previously told the past 3 months by the family doctor and all of that. I feel relieved to a point, but now I’m very confused. He’s been using Symbicort, with albuterol for emergency back up. This lung specialist wants him to also start using Spiriva. If this were you, or your husband, how would you feel after yesterday’s appointment with the lung specialist?
I kind of feel relieved, but still edgy feeling. Any advice?
Also, in addition to my husband giving up smoking in April, he started going to the hospital 3 times a weel to work out in the pulimonary lab to re-strengthen his lungs and that’s been going well too.

Thanks in advance for anybody that will answer. I’ve been a wreck for months now over his medical conditions, even been scared to answer the phone for fear of what the doctor’s might call and say!
