Shop in Birmingham helps smokers quit
A new shop in Northfield Shopping Centre, Birmingham is helping people to quit smoking. The Quit-Stop shop, which is part of the NHS stop smoking Service, is the first of its kind in the West Midlands. It aims to help the one in five people in south Birmingham who are still addicted to tobacco. The shop is just like any other in that would-be quitters can drop in and browse the products available, which include gum, patches and other medication. They can also talk to the Quit-Stop staff, who offer the advice and motivation needed to kick the habit for good. Carol Carter, head of the South Birmingham stop smoking Service, says: “I genuinely believe that if people could give up on their own then they would do, but we\’re here to make that process easier. We\’ll offer support and advice and give you medication that will help the quitting experience.” Quit-Stop uses a system of measuring some of the toxins caused by smoking as well as highlighting the health benefits that are noticeable immediately after quitting. Demonstrating evidence of the body\’s rapid repair is hugely motivational to quitters and helps them stay on track for a healthier lifestyle. Voting Question: My doctors surgery keep sending me away!? are they allowed?
I am trying to stop smoking and get a prescription for champix or zyban and whenever I go down to the doctors surgery they just keep giving me an NHS stop smoking helpline number which means i have to make my way around the county to see the whole world and his brother. before they can give me a prescription for it.
Why is this? Should i be able to just meet with my doctor for this?
Any advice is appreciated.
